Barbecue season is here and will help you avoid making those same grilling mistakes from year’s past. Unlike cooking on a stove, there is an art to grilling and burgers can either be your biggest hit or mistake. To help this grilling season, here are some tips to barbecuing the best burger.

Once you’ve mixed your ground beef with the seasonings of your choice and formed them into patties press a thumbprint into the patty. This will prevent the burger from ending up in more a round shape like a tennis ball. Also, refrain from flattening the burger because that will force it to lose its juiciness.

Unlike other meats that should be room temperature before being put on the grill, try keeping your burger patties cold. This method will keep the flavor-carrying fats in the meat. Another tip is to put the burgers on a well-oiled hot grill.

When on the grill, cook the patties over direct heat for about three minutes before flipping them to cook for the same amount of time. Once that’s done you’ll want to move the patties to cook in indirect heat for two minutes.
