Sunday Breakfast: How to Make an Apple Skillet Cake

Apples in a cake: two of our favorite things. This is easy and tasty!
Here’s What You Need
1/2 cup butter
2/3 cup brown sugar
1/2 tsp vanilla
1 large egg
1 cup flour
1/2 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp baking soda
1 1/2 tsp cinnamon
1/4 tsp salt
1/2 cup buttermilk
2 large apples
1 Tbsp coarse brown sugar (for topping)
Here’s What You Do
Step 1: Mix together all of your dry ingredients and make sure they are well incorporated.
Step 2: Using a mixer, cream together sugar and butter until they are pale and fluffy.
Step 3: Add egg and vanilla to butter/sugar mixture until everything is well incorporated.
Step 4: With the mixer running, slowly add in dry ingredients alternated with the buttermilk until everything is well mixed together.
Step 5: Transfer mixture into a buttered cast iron skillet and make sure it is evenly spread out.
Step 6: Thinly slice the apples and lay them in one layer over the top of the cake batter. Sprinkle the top with the coarse brown sugar.
Step 7: Bake at 400° for 25 minutes and enjoy warm right out of the pan.
