Summer Barbecue Myths Debunked

Bella Breakdown

Summertime eating is the absolute best. Don’t let these myths stop you from enjoying all of the amazingly delicious options.

You’ll get terrible cramps if you swim after you eat. We are pretty sure moms made this one up to get their kids to sit still and finish their meal before running off. There is zero evidence that proves this claim is true. So throw your swimsuit on and jump in.

Grilled meat causes cancer. You would have to eat your weight in grilled meat everyday to put yourself at risk. Attending summer barbecues will not give you cancer.

Always keep food refrigerated. Most foods are actually safe to consume for about two hours. So don’t worry about the potato salad sitting on the table for 30 minutes.

Eating garlic keeps the mosquitos away. Who even came up with this? While it may keep a potential significant other away, it will not keep the bugs away.
Rhubarb is poisonous in the summer. Rhubarb stalks are always safe to eat, just make sure to steer clear of the leaves.

You can eat summer veggies from your garden without washing them. Hate to break it to you, but there is animals poop and outside chemicals that are just sitting on top of your food. So make sure you give your food a good scrub.

Make sure you get your food from reputable sources, wash all produce, and you will survive the summer grilling season!
