Fall Fun: Seasonal Activities for the Whole Family

fallfun1

The glorious season of fall is here and it is time to take advantage. Between the comfortable weather with cooler temperatures, as well as all of the holidays to look forward to, this is one of the best times of the year to have some family fun. Enjoying the beautiful outdoors, as well as making holiday family traditions are both ways you can make the most of the season before the cold and darkness of winter set in.

fallfun2When we think of fall, one of the first things that comes to our minds is the foliage. In addition to hiking and driving to see the beautiful colors, there are many other ways to enjoy being outdoors. Try canoeing, kayaking, biking trails or even zip lining as an alternative way to enjoy fall’s beauty.

Try something spooky. If your kids are little, you can visit a really old house, a village depicting years ago, or a corn maze. If they are a little bit older, you can go to a real haunted house, a spooky nature trail, graveyard or a haunted hay ride. Additionally, lots of places offer fall, spooky, or Halloween-themed special events this time of year.

Find outdoor eating. Whether it be at a fall fair or taking advantage of outdoor seating at your favorite restaurant, there are many choices of ways to enjoy outdoor dining. Octoberfests, fall festivals, and events at local orchards all offer cuisine that showcases the best of the season. Additionally, you can stay home. Prepare a meal and eat outdoors in cozy sweaters or make s’mores by a fire.

Go picking! Apples, pears, and pumpkins are in abundance this time of year. So, pack up the family and head to your nearest pumpkin patch or apple orchard and experience how fun it is to pick things in nature. Be sure to make something yummy with what you come home with. From pumpkin soup to apple pie, there is nothing that says fall like home-made comfort foods.

Watch some spooky (or just fall-themed) movies. Whether you indulge in some spine-chilling thrillers with your older children or some traditional ones, such as “It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown” with your littles, enjoying the shows of the season is a fun tradition.

Take advantage of this wonderful season. Get creative and make some family memories!
