Bethenny Frankel: Making Decor Look Expensive On A Budget

Bella Breakdown

With the bevy of options to choose from these days, it’s hard to narrow down where and what to get when decorating your home…especially if you’re on a tight budget. Just because you can’t break the bank doesn’t mean you can’t find something cute, and more importantly, something that looks like it’s expensive. Ahh…there’s nothing better than something that looks designer and high-end, but was actually the cheapest thing you’ve purchased.

Bethenny Frankel, the star of Bravo’s “Bethenny & Fredrick”, gives her tips for how to make inexpensive furniture look expensive, and also look chic and classy. Here’s how to decorate on a budget:

1. Mix highs and lows: Know what to spend more money on, and what you can save money on. For example, spend more money on better flooring, cabinets, and countertops. But, you can buy inexpensive wall paper, window treatments and anything in less-traffic areas. Mixing highs and lows will help the place not only look great, but help you decipher your budget.
2. Give the illusion of luxury: Frankel suggests using the color black to make things look more industrial and richer.
3. Find cheaper versions of expensive things: Find something you love at a high-end store, then cruise the lower-end stores to find a similar piece that you also love. Porcelain tiles are made to look like marble, and that’s just one example!
4. Use your leftovers: Extra wallpaper, flooring or repurposing fabrics and furniture is a great way to save money on smaller things that add up quickly.
