Here’s What You Should Eat If You Feel A Cold Coming On

Bella Breakdown

There are a lot of rumors and myths about what you can do to boost immunity and prevent a cold or flu. Generally, it’s all about taking care of yourself, getting plenty of sleep and eating right. But sometimes, you just can’t avoid a little cold. When you feel the symptoms coming on, you can ramp up certain immunity-boosting foods to help fight the illness faster.

Breakfast

Start your day with lots of water. Drink at least one full glass first thing if you can. Next, opt for antioxidant packed fruits and probiotic rich yogurt. Greek yogurt with blueberries, or a smoothie made with fruit, yogurt, spinach and ginger would be perfect.

Snacks

Sip tea and water throughout the day to stay hydrated and clear your sinuses. Ginger or tumeric tea are wonderful! Snack on an orange, apple or a little dark chocolate if you need a boost.

Lunch

Soup is always a soothing option when you’re sick, especially if you don’t have much of an appetite. A great option would be something like a Thai chicken soup with coconut milk, ginger and spice. The broth is hydrating and the spices will help ward off a cold. Just make sure to drink plenty of water to offset any high salt content.

Dinner

Opt for a dinner full of healthy fats, especially if you haven’t been able to eat anything really substantial throughout the day. Salmon cooked with olive oil, and a side of leafy greens and avocado would be great. Dark chocolate is packed with great antioxidants, so feel free to finish off your meal with a couple squares!
