How to Make a Pressed Cubano with Bacon

Bella Breakdown

If you’ve ever had a real cuban sandwich made with layers of mustard, swiss cheese and ham in  one of those big presses covered with tin foil, you know it can’t be replicated. But this recipe comes darn close. With soft bread, three different kinds of meat, bursting with flavor, your foodie friends will bow down at your feet.

All you’ll need is:

  • 1 tsp. extra virgin olive oil
  • 1 minced garlic clove
  • 4 sliced Hawaiian rolls
  • 2 tbsp. yellow mustard
  • 8 slices swiss cheese
  • 4 cooked bacon slices
  • 12 dill pickle slices
  • 2 tsp. minced cilantro
  • 6 oz. thinly sliced ham
  • 2 oz. thinly sliced turkey

Start by mixing the olive oil and minced clove of garlic, set aside for later. Next, begin building your sandwiches by spreading yellow mustard on your sliced Hawaiian rolls, then each one gets a slice of swiss cheese. Split your cooked bacon and put two halves on every sandwich along with three slices of dill pickle. Sprinkle on a little mixed cilantro and layer up with thinly sliced ham and turkey.

Top with your other slice of swiss cheese and cover the Hawaiian roll tops. Coat with your garlic olive oil mixture from earlier and place in a heated pan. Here’s the key, using a cast iron skillet or other heavy pan wrapped in tin foil press down, hard, on your sandwiches so they’re thin and crispy on the outside.

Enjoy!
