The Dos And Don’ts Of A First Date

Bella Breakdown

It’s officially cuffing season, and there’s nothing better than cuddling up with your SO by the fire. For those of you who are dating this season, or maybe getting back out there for the first time in a while, a first date can be extra intimidating. Let’s admit it, it’s also pretty awkward. No one is a professional at this stuff, and the best advice is to just be yourself, but there are a few tricks of the dating trade that can help ease your nerves.

Do Admit Your Nervous

You’re only human, and unless your date is a robot, they’re probably feeling a little nervous too. Revealing your true feelings in the moment is a great way to create trust between the two of you. It opens the conversation up and can ease any tension or formality that may be there in the beginning.

Do Speak Up for Yourself

You won’t do yourself any favors by keeping quiet. If you disagree with something your date says, voice your opinions. There’s only potential for a relationship if you both can respect each other’s views. Plus, it could strike up a really good conversation!

Do Call a Friend for Moral Support

If you’re feeling down or just not very optimistic about the date, call a friend for a pep talk. There’s nothing like a girlfriend to boost your confidence!

Don’t Talk About Your Ex

This may seem like an obvious one, but it’s a topic that can be harder to avoid than you think. It’s easy to slip into an anecdote about a past relationship, or casually drop some hints about how your ex annoyed you. Avoid this topic at all costs!

Don’t Talk About Sex

This one may vary depending on what you want. If you really want to have sex on the first date, then hey, go for it! If you’re looking for something more long term, and want to take it slow, avoid being too sensual or talking about sex. Trust me, it will make the sex better later.
