Bella Breakdown

As the summer days are rapidly stretching toward fall, all of the telltale signs are here: back-to-school ads on tv, fall items in the stores, and most of all, the drive to fit in as many things as possible before school is back in session. I had panicky thoughts the other day when I was thinking of the end of the summer coming and when our lives go back to the busy business of the school year. There are too many things we haven’t done yet!

If you are like me and want to fit in as many fun activities before your kids are back in the throes of school, homework, and afterschool activities, make a list of your top three things you want to do before the summer winds down. If you are able, take a quick weekend trip away – either to one of your favorite destinations or perhaps try something new.

With all of the information on the internet these days, it’s easy to find out if the destination has activities and accommodations that are what would be fun for you and your kids. If a long trip is too much to plan last minute, think small. My kids are old enough that we were able to brainstorm together a few things we wanted to do before school begins. Getting your kids involved makes them more excited for the adventures to come.

Zoom Over To The Zoo

One idea for a quick, fun day “trip” is a day at the zoo. I have always found that even driving for an hour is worth the trip. Kids big and small love animals and the zoo is a great place to see them all in one day. Check online for coupons or other family discounts. You can even save money by packing your own picnic lunch and snack. Just call ahead and find out what rules they have about what you are allowed to bring in. Click HERE to find a local zoo near you!

Make It A Movie Date

Another fun, inexpensive day activity is seeing a Matinee movie. The movie theater is a great, cool place to get out of the heat on a hot summer day. For movie times, theaters, and tickets click HERE!

Have A Backyard Blast!

Another way to make cool, memorable fun is to create it right in your backyard. A plastic tarp and a garden hose can quickly be made into a Slip-N-Slide. Even your hard to please teenagers will love this activity! Or, turn a game of water balloon toss into a game of water balloon tennis or baseball. Check out this comprehensive list of fun DIY outdoor activities HERE!

The good news is that you still have a few weeks left to have some memorable fun with your kids! So get creative and enjoy!
