Harvey Weinstein’s long list of victims are starting to get some justice after accusing the former Hollywood producer of sexual misconduct. Last week, Weinstein and his former studio’s board members reached a tentative $44 million dollar settlement.

More than 80 women accused Weinstein of being inappropriate with them with many of those complaints involving sexual harassment, which is a civil violation. However, Weinstein is still facing criminal charges in New York after being accused of sexual violence by two women.

Sadly, the proposed settlement is far less than what was initially discussed as a victims’ fund last year. According to reports, the proposed deal included a fund of up to $90 million, but the deal fell apart at the last minute. Under the new deal, $30 million will go to a pool of plaintiffs that are made up of alleged victims, creditors and some former employees. The settlement will also be used to pay the legal fees for Weinstein’s associates that were named as defendants.

Weinstein used to be one of the most powerful figures in Hollywood until an expose was released in 2017 detailing allegations of him sexually harassing and abusing many women over several decades. After The New York Times article was released the #MeToo movement and Time’s Up took off across a variety of industries.

Weinstein has pleaded not guilty to the criminal charges saying that the sexual encounters were consensual.
