The Northern Lights are an amazing spectacle of nature. Otherwise known as the Aurora Borealis, these amazing lights can be seen in higher latitude arctic regions such as Alaska and Norway. The best times to see the lights are between September and April. Many people plan their entire vacations around it just to see this unbelievable sight, often opting for a long time Norwegian or Alaskan vacation.

The human eye is able to witness the lights, however we are only able to see about two colors of the Aurora Borealis. Typically the naked eye is able to see the green and yellow colors, however if scientific equipment is used, you can witness shades of red, blue, pink, and violet. The Aurora Borealis is caused by gaseous Earth particles colliding with charged particles from the sun. The color is caused by atoms such as nitrogen and oxygen.

The Aurora Borealis is a much sought after tourist sight. Many people spend months in their destination just to catch a glimpse of it. The Northern Lights have been a mystified phenomenon, often displayed in movies and television. It feels extraterrestrial and magical to bare witness to the Northern Lights. It’s a bucket list item for many people.
