Your Golden Globes Recap: The Best Moments
Bella Breakdown
On Sunday night, the biggest stars in movies and television walked the red carpet for their chance at a coveted Golden Globe. From the amazing dresses to the heartfelt speeches, there was a lot to love about this year’s show. But as usual, it was a long event, stretching a full three hours. So I’ve picked out my top favorite moments, so you can relive the experience without the time commitment.
1. The Hosts: Sandra Oh and Andy Samberberg
We have to acknowledge these incredible stars, who had great banter, hilarious jokes and positive chemistry with the audience. Being an award show host is one of the most difficult gigs in Hollywood, and I think these two nailed it. Plus, can we just talk about Sandra Oh’s precious acceptance speech? She won for Best Actress in a Drama Series, for her role in “Killing Eve.” She was truly shocked, and her message to her parents, who were in the audience, had me on the verge of tears.
2. Regina King’s Powerful Message
Regina King took home the globe for Best Supporting Actress for her role in “If Beale Street Could Talk.” Everything about King was genuine and powerful. She shared a special moment with her son, who was a huge inspiration for her during the filming, and then made a pledge to do her part in creating more gender equality in Hollywood. This is one speech you should definitely revisit!
3. Lady Gaga. Everything About Her.
It was clear that Lady Gaga was in awe of the success of “A Star is Born,” and was almost starstruck as she walked the carpet with fellow celebrities, and even got to take home an award for Best Original Song, “Shallow.” While many “A Star is Born” fans were disappointed that the film didn’t win any other awards, the cast and crew were gracious and humble. Also, can we just talk about Gaga’s dress? Her periwinkle gown was a tribute to Judy Garland from the 1954 version of the film, and she absolutely took the prize for best dressed.
4. The Surprising Big Winners
This year, there were unexpected wins at the Globes, and many fans are wondering how this will impact the Academy Awards next month. “Green Book” and “Bohemian Rhapsody” took home the top prizes, outdoing some of the predicted winners like “A Star is Born” and “The Favourite.” Personally, I was absolutely blown away by the two winning films, and I think their success speaks to their powerful messages on society, history, fame, and acceptance.
