Apple upgrades its workout-friendly earbuds with heart rate tracking, better battery life, and enhanced sound for fitness enthusiasts

Apple has finally unveiled the Powerbeats Pro 2, delivering a long-awaited upgrade for fitness enthusiasts. Nearly six years after the original Powerbeats Pro hit the market, the second-generation earbuds bring improved sound, longer battery life, wireless charging, and a game-changing heart rate monitor—all wrapped in a sleek, workout-friendly design.

Heart Rate Monitoring for Smarter Workouts

The biggest fitness-focused addition to the Powerbeats Pro 2 is built-in heart rate monitoring. Using LED optical sensors, the earbuds track your heart rate in real time while you exercise. This feature syncs seamlessly with Apple’s Health app and other top fitness platforms like Peloton, Nike Run Club, Runna, Ladder, Slopes, Open, and YaoYao. Surprisingly, Strava isn’t supported at launch, but Apple could expand compatibility in the future.

This marks a significant step in Apple’s ongoing health and fitness push, which has long been led by the Apple Watch. With ECG readings, sleep tracking, and fall detection, the company is continuously expanding its suite of wellness tools. Now, by integrating heart rate monitoring into the Beats lineup, Apple is making it easier for athletes and fitness lovers to train smarter without needing a watch.

Better Sound, Longer Battery, and a Sleeker Design

Apple has packed the H2 chip—first seen in the AirPods Pro 2—into the Powerbeats Pro 2, bringing improved noise cancellation, Spatial Audio with head tracking, and Adaptive EQ that automatically fine-tunes sound based on your ears.

Battery life also gets a major boost. The earbuds last up to 10 hours per charge (up from 9 hours), but the real game-changer is the charging case. It now delivers a total of 45 hours of battery life, nearly doubling the previous 24-hour limit. And despite this upgrade, Apple has shrunk the bulky case from the original Powerbeats Pro.

Another welcome change is the switch from Lightning to USB-C, making charging more convenient. The earbuds also offer wireless charging for added flexibility.

Designed for Performance and Comfort

The signature ear hook design is still here, but Apple has upgraded it with nickel alloy for enhanced durability and a 20% lighter fit. The Powerbeats Pro 2 has also been tested on 1,000 athletes to create a more universal, comfortable fit for all users.

Like their predecessors, these earbuds are built for sweat and water resistance, featuring an IPX4 rating—on par with AirPods.

Price, Availability, and Star-Studded Promotions

The Powerbeats Pro 2 is available online today for $250, the same price as the original model in 2019. They will hit store shelves this Thursday, February 13.

Apple might have missed the Super Bowl ad rush, but that hasn’t stopped them from rolling out a massive promotional campaign. Expect to see endorsements from LeBron James, Lionel Messi, and Shohei Ohtani, reinforcing the Powerbeats Pro 2’s status as a go-to workout companion for top athletes.

With powerful new fitness features, longer battery life, and improved sound, the Powerbeats Pro 2 is shaping up to be a must-have for anyone serious about workouts and music. Whether you’re hitting the gym, running outdoors, or training for a competition, these earbuds are designed to keep up with your toughest sessions.
