Bella Breakdown

After hours or baking your cakes are finally out of the oven and cooled, now for the final touch, icing! We’ve all had kitchen nightmares frosting a cake you’ve been slaving over all day, the layers start to crumble, the icing gets clumpy and it never quite looks like the baker’s window display. Well here’s how to make your cake icing dream come true!

All you’ll need is:

•Ice Cream Scooper
•Buttercream Frosting
•Flat Frosting Knives
•Bench Scraper (or a metal ruler)

Start by placing 2-3 scoops of buttercream frosting on the top of your cake and spread a thin layer across, scraping the frosting knife as you go. Begin to push the frosting down on the sides of your cake then switch to your smaller frosting knife for smoothing on the sides.

Use a bench scraper at a 45 degree angle to scrape off any frosting from the sides, repeat in a circular motion across the top until you have a smooth, even coat. For this step if you don’t happen to have this handy kitchen tool laying around, try using a sturdy metal ruler for a finishing touch. Trust us, this step is important so don’t skip it if you want you frosting perfection.

Refrigerate to set the frosting, after it’s chilled, place 3-4 scoops of spread as you did before. Focus on getting it even, not smooth. Start with your frosting knife, push extra frosting over to the sides, then smooth with you bench scraper. Finish with an adorable cake topper or sprinkles and enjoy!

**Bella Bonus Tip** If your frosting isn’t resounding like you want, run your knife under hot water, dry it well, and use it to soften the buttercream.
