Mayo Clinic Tips: How To Eat Healthy On-The-Go

Bella Breakdown

Anyone who is busy knows that eating healthy while on the run seems next to impossible. But, it doesn’t have to be. Living a busy life doesn’t mean you have to forfeit your healthy lifestyle, all it takes is a little bit more planning and meal preparation. If you can afford to take the time to plan ahead with your diet and nutrition, you will see changes and you will feel much less stressed while running around.

Kate Zeratsky is a registered Mayo Clinic dietician nutritionist, and she has some great tips on how to stay healthy while living in a fast-paced world:
-Be aware of your side order: Fries seem to be a default side order, but they pack a huge calorie and sodium punch. Try being more careful with your meals, especially what you get the side, and perhaps go for the fruit or salad option instead of French fries.
-Check the menu thoroughly: Check things like calorie count, saturated fat and sodium when looking at a menu. A lot of restaurants now list their nutritional content, but if they don’t, use common sense to dictate what will likely be high in those three categories.
-Go for grilled: Things that are grilled or baked are usually much healthier than fried food items. If possible, go for the grilled or baked option.
-Smaller portions: Ask the restaurant if you can order a smaller portion of the meal you’ve chosen, decreasing the portion size. If that’s not possible and your meal is rather large, take some home to eat the next day.
