How to Clean Your Yoga Mat

Bella Breakdown
There’s nothing less relaxing than going through your first sun salutation and realizing that the smelly mat in the room belong to you.

Just like any other piece of fitness equipment, yoga mats requires periodic cleaning. Unlike other excise gear, your relationship with your mat is very personal, you sweat on it, put your face on, breath deeply into it, so you don’t want to cover it with all manner of bleaching solutions. Instead try this natural approach.

Cut a lemon in half and squeeze the juice through a strainer directly onto your mat. Then wash with a face-soap and water mixture. Rinse thoroughly, towel dry and repeat on the other side. Make sure you let your mat air dry for a while over a chair or in your bathroom before rolling up.

Next time you move from cobra to downward dog you’ll get a refreshing whiff of lemony goodness. Goodbye smelly yoga mats!
