Need To Knows Before You Paint Your Own House

Bella Breakdown

Everyone loves a good ol’ fashioned DIY paint job. However, before you decide to take up the brush and tackle the rooms of your house, you should consider whether or not it is going to be worth it. Ask yourself these five questions and then decide if you want to do it yourself and save some money or spend a little more to hire a professional.

1. What condition are your walls in?

If your walls are rough, then you will have to either sand them down or scrape off excess paint in order to get a good paint job. This can be a huge hassle and it is difficult to do correctly.

2. Do you have back problems?

People who experience frequent back pain should not try to paint their own house. The repetitive movement necessary for painting, combined with uncomfortable positions, can cause people with back problems to experience even more discomfort.

3. How artistic are you?

If you don’t have an artist’s eye and a tendency towards perfectionism, then you may want to outsource the project so that the paint job is thorough and well done. Painting is messy and when not done well, you can have yourself a messy disaster on and off the walls.

4. Do heights bother you?

High ceilings, large ladders, and a fear of heights do not go well together. If you tend to get woozy when you are high in the sky, perhaps painting isn’t for you.

5. How much do you value your time?

People paint as full time jobs. It takes a lot of time and effort to paint a room- at least a day, if not longer. If you would rather be doing something else with your free time, then do that!
